It was in 2005 that I realized how amazing pole dancing was as a sport, although I had been training for four years beforehand.
It was then I decided to look and learn from YouTube which is a great source of information and started to teach myself tricks.
In 2007 I was the face of Pole Love calendar and travelled to competitions and pole events around the UK developing my tricks skills. As a professional dancer I feel I can pick moves up pretty fast.
2008 was a huge year for me as it saw me enter my first competition and place 2nd in the Pole Divas final, soon after i also placed 2nd in Miss Essex Pole.
I have recently worked with a large Pole company X-Pole as their latest X-Pole girl and have been a judge and performer at the UK’s biggest National Amateur Pole Competition UKAPP.

This year, Pole2Pole Magazine have introduced the first ever national amateur pole dance competition – the Pole2Pole Amateur Cup 2011.
Heats are being held all over the country over the coming months, and The Pole Fitness Academy are thrilled to be hosting one of those Heats at our studio in Ozone Health Club at the Kassam Football Stadium site.
The heat is being held on Saturday 14th May 2011, and doors open at 12pm, with competition performances beginning at 1pm. It is a completely family-friendly event, and a great opportunity for anyone who poledances to bring their friends and family, and introduce them to the awe-inspiring brilliance that is pole fitness!
ALL contestants are amateurs to competitive pole dancing – although some of the girls competing may have been pole dancing for some time, none have done so at a competitive level, so nerves will definitely be running high! The girls, from various locations around the country, have all choreographed their own routines to music chosen by them, and will be performing in front of family and friends, and our panel of 3 esteemed judges:
Born in Oxford to West Indian parents, Kid Fury is a DJ, Radio Personality, Producer, Music PR and general all-round musical genius. Equally as adept on the mic as on the turntables Kid Fury started building a rep for himself on 'Da Boom Box' radio show which was recognised as one of the country's top shows in Hip Hop Connection in 2000He is also a whizz at taking down poles (I met him when he helped me undo my old X-Pole after a video shoot!!!) Like many he started as a member of a reggae sound system (Yard Force) back in 1995, and you can now hear him DJ regularly at both Camera and The Cellar in our very own Oxford. He is also currently in the studio recording his debut EP, which will be well worth waiting for!
Kid Fury will be assessing the dancers' routines with a musician's eye, looking for flow, musicality and lyricism. He has worked with poledancers previously in music video shoots and is really looking forward to seeing the musical choices that the girls have made.
Samantha joined Jack fm and Glide fm in June 2010. Samantha is no stranger to dancing after being a pub manager for four years and having to control the best of them! At 19 Samantha was the youngest manager within the company - she has always said it was her years in the 'pub game' that gave her the degree in life!
Samantha has always been interested in the arts. From a young age, playing various different roles on stage – her claim to fame was her performance as the back end of a horse! She went on to study Performing Arts in Portsmouth and performed in Moulin Rouge.
Samantha is delighted to be asked to be one of the judges in the world's first pole2pole dance competition that is being held in Oxford - she will be looking for lots of enthusiasm, creativity and of course plenty of fun from the dancers.
Kiwi born, international performing artist, Amy Richardson-Impey has been teaching, choreographing and performing on and off stage New Zealand wide, in a large scope of dance genres for well over a decade, producing her first show at the age of 14.
Internationally acclaimed and most well known for her work in the Pole Dance industry, touching audiences worldwide, 2008/09 saw Amy perform and teach the art of pole not only New Zealand wide, but also in Australia, England and Jamaica.
Amy represented New Zealand at MISS WORLD POLE DANCE 09 in Jamaica, April 2009 and continued her work throughout 2010, starring in 2 international music videos, travelling worldwide, and continuing to learn and share her passion and her art in Aerial Pole, Aerial Lyra and Aerial Silks.
The competitors will be judged on their technical ability, musicality (the way they have interpreted the music and matched it with their moves), audience engagement, and originality/costume/theme.
Some of our own PFA girls will be competing so PLEASE bring a few friends and come and support the first Oxford pole fitness competition heat EVER!!! Be a part of something BIG!!!
